We had a very successful run season this year. Most of the operational issues dealt with mal-functioning equipment, a few minor electrical problems, and towards the close of the season, turnout motor and contact problems. Thanks to all our members for their participation in building, maintaining and operating the layout! Next year should see additional layout improvements even more successful operations.
During Summer-Fall 2010, the O Scale team continued work on the re-tracking of the diesel service yard adjoining the Midway Engine Terminal. There are now inbound, outbound and turntable tracks controllable from either the Midway Engine or Diesel Yard panels. Trackside platforms and lights were installed along the diesel service tracks and four sanding towers also added. An industry building is ready to add to the new Midway industrial spurs. Signals were added for the Zenith block 11-12-16 turnout area. The Zenith turntable is now motorized. Additional scenery framing work on the south mountain continues.
Interurban: A control panel was built and installed for the Churchill yard area and interchange to SFW.
On the Euerka & Empire On3 layout, work progressed on the lower Eureka yard including laying and ballasting the yard trackage, adding several buildings, wiring the yard tracks and turntable, and adding control panels. The Eureka station and warehouse buildings for two industries from the SFW were installed.
All of the X10 wireless surveillance cameras have now been replaced with high resolution wired cameras. These all feed into a 16-port video multiplexor switch from which they can be grouped, sequenced or combined for output to video monitors in the control areas. A flat panel display and four-port video switch was added for Midway operators.
Among our upcoming Winter projects will be to rebuild the Arrival west ladder with #8 turnouts and extend the yard tracks.
