O Scale Progress 2003
This year on the Santa Fe Western, the Zenith yard support frame was built, road base installed and then the track work began. Hand laid ties and rails and turnouts were installed. The west sub yard was laid out and ties installed.
After trackwork completed, a central control panel was built, track and turnout motors installed and wired.
Four new bridges were needed, installed, a guider for block 15 over block 16, a curved steel bridge for block 15, a long trestle bridge on block 12, and a truss bridge on block 13.
The Arch Bridge crossing track and crossing were also completed and an electrical interlock system installed to prevent collisions. This allows the mainline connecting to Midway to extend from block 10, to blocks 11 and 15 at the Arch Bridge interlock, then blocks 12, 13 over the
Diablo Canyon Bridge into east Zenith yard. From there, trains can return via block 15 to Midway block 10, or loop back via 16 to block 12.
On the Oakland, Antioch and Eastern, the Churchill yard was laid out and track and turnouts installed.
