During Summer-Fall 2011, the O Scale group continued work on several projects. At the Pt. Richmond harbor and town areas a harbor water surface with wave texture is being built. The town area was elevated to allow the trolley line to be at pavement level. The town buildings were arranged to provide better public viewing from walkways. Signals were added to the Zenith block 12-11-16 interface. We did some ballasting along the Departure main lines and Midway industrial and diesel yards. Stall tracks are being added to the five-stall engine house at Midway. Plaster webbing was added to the south mountain extension scenery supports and it is now ready for plaster during Winter 2012 break. The OSCI panels were updated and the JMRI computer program has been updated for the latest version of JMRI. The panels were redone using the Layout Editor which will allow automatic dispatching and train operation.
Interurban: An automatic reverse loop module was added to the Barstow loop so trains can be looped without operator intervention. Wiring of the control panel for the Churchill yard area and interchange to SFW continues.
On the Eureka & Empire On3 layout, work progressed on the lower Eureka yard including laying and ballasting the yard trackage, a scenic barrier next to the Pt. Richmond area, adding several buildings, and testing DCC control. A custom built rock plant was added before the Eureka yard area.
The Passenger yard monitor at Arrival was replace with a flat screen and we plan to replace several of the older monitors also with flat screens. The camera train engine with the Li-ion batteries has worked well during the season. --Jeff Rowe, O Scale TrainMaster
