Midway and Arrival Block 5 pushbutton cab selection control |
This picture shows the Midway Block 5 Cab Selection pushbuttons.
Select between Main, Local, Arrival, Departure cabs, or Off. For Arrival and Departure, coordinate with the respective dispatchers before making changes.
The correct Block 5 hand-off procedure should be for the operator who is leaving a train in the block to push the Cab Selection OFF button when the train is in position. He would then tell the operator picking up the train that it is ready. The new operator would then assign his cab and take over the train.
Note: pushing the corresponding button for MAIN or LOCAL actually selects a Midway cab, the buttons marked ARRIVAL and DEPARTURE do not select cabs, but rather just shifts control to those boards. You still need to throw the Block 5 toggle on the selected board to assign a cab. To avoid the inadvertent takeover of a train due to the wrong button being pushed, a safe practice for the Arrival and Departure operators should be to keep their Block 5 cab selector toggles in the center (neutral) position unless they are actually controlling a train in that block.
